Welcome back to club members and supporters for 2018. We have 3 events coming up in the next week that will be of interest to you.
We are indeed fortunate to have Euan Moore as the guest speaker for the first general meeting of the year for a talk titled Nature Conservation in Victoria – A VNPA perspective. Euan is the current president of the Victorian National Parks Association (VNPA), a not for profit environmental NGO that aims to improve the level of protection for Victoria’s natural environment, fauna and flora. This talk will briefly cover the history of the VNPA and then move on to the state of the environment in Victoria and to some current major issues. Closest to home is the current Victorian Environmental Assessment Council (VEAC) inquiry into the western Victorian Forests including Cobaw, Wellsford, Wombat and Pyrenees forests and logging plans for western Victoria.
This meeting will be held on Friday 9 February from 7.30pm in the Fellowship Room behind the Uniting Church on Lyttleton St, next door to the Castlemaine Art Gallery and Museum. Doors open from 7.15pm.
On the following day (Sat 10 Feb), there will be an excursion to Mount Macedon led by club members George Broadway and Richard Piesse. It departs at 1.30pm sharp from the parking area opposite the Castle Motel on Duke St (at the Octopus building). Further details on the events page of our website (click here).
Then, from 9am on Monday 12 Feb, club members are encouraged to support the quarterly roadside clean-up. This is along a significant stretch of roadside vegetation along the Pyrenees Hwy. Meet at the corner of Pyrenees Hwy and Willy Milly Road (next to Tait Decorative Iron) at 9am. Wear sturdy footwear and bring gloves. Garbage bags and reflective vests will be provided. It is usually all finished by 11am.
The club’s 2018 AGM will coincide with the March general meeting (Friday 9 March).
